Unless I am in Afghanistan or Iraq, see you in Atlanta?

I am now a government contractor (temporary) training for government service (GG rating civilian) employee position with the Army and/or USMC as a cultural adviser (Human Terrain Team member-Social Scientists and analysts and research specialists-some with and some without military experience). If I can make it through all the gates (there are several) I will be deployed in either November (right before Thanksgiving) or December (right before Christmas) for 9 to 12 months.
A very rewarding program that I am excited to be a part of. It got a lot of bad press at the outset due to some staffing problems and growing pains. They have most of the kinks worked out now and it is some excellent training by some super people. I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and my fellow team members/trainees since I got here. A real high quality bunch of patriots. I often wonder how they picked me to work with these people.

A old Navy buddy of mine (who retired from the USCG) is currently doing something like that right now over near beautiful downtown Kabul. Best of luck in your endeavors. Curiously (or not), these are the types of things that SHOULD be getting some accolades for the USA, but ... no, we never seem to hear about programs like this. |

Remember, as a potential 1st year professional umpire you would be in short season Rookie / A ball (~June 20 to Aug 31) for the 1st couple of years, which would still allow time for a pretty full college schedule. |

I just booked my room at the Marriott in Los Angels for Jan 22, and 23rd. Our NCAA room rate was 109.00/ night. I just booked those same 2 nites on officials.rovia.com for $87.00. It is a site that a lot of the guys use in all sports.
My buddy turned me on to this site last year and it is usually checaper than travelocity or expedia. Might be worth taking a look at!! |

Dave, I wish I would have read this sooner: Good luck; I commend you and wish for you some exhilarating challenges and accomplishments. Great stuff!
