Nowhere does it say the team was from LV.

Do you think there are no religious people in Nevada?

Typ, you are really picking the wrong nit on this one...As pointed out, nothing says the team was from LV...

To some, there are just things more important than even baseball...I have turned down many quality games as an umpire for the benefit of my family. I have resigned from a job for the benefit of my family / faith.

There is just no logical reason to question their statement for missing the game, even noting the level of game it was. So why do it?

Aloha,
Mike

With you on this one, Rich. If their adherence to religious practices means that they can't take part in certain activities on a given day, so be it and not on us to judge whatsoever. Back when I was running a PONY league, one kid was always contending for a spot with the All Star teams but couldn't play on Sundays for religious observance. Coaches still took him for the teams knowing this.

I’ve always had great respect for people who religiously observe the Sabbath, be it Saturday or Sunday. Biblically, Saturday has always been the traditional Sabbath, and it’s even ingrained in all the romance languages. “Sabado” is Saturday in Spanish. Somewhere along the line, western civ switched it to Sunday for Catholics and Protestants.

But this is Little League for God’s sakes:

“I trust in God
I love my country
And will respect its laws
I will play fair
And strive to win
But win or lose
I will always do my best.”

There was a time when LL prohibited Sunday games.

Koufax would not pitch on the sabbath or on Jewish holy days.

Judging. Good heavens, it hadn't occured to me to "judge" anyone. Quite the contrary. I'm one of the few, having watched "Chariots of Fire, that actually longed for a time when something was more important than sports. I love sports, obviously, but it's not the most important thing.

Judge?? What an idea!! In eight years, I've met one family, like mine, that occasionally pulled a kid out of a sunday morning game. To think that three kids might pull the plug,... that could actually generate a forfeit which would FORCE a team or league to schedule a more reasonable time for games?? No, no, I do not *judge,* I venerate, respect, idolize, worship such a player! Having three kids say "no," not just to a Sunday morning game, but to a Sunday afternoon game?? That's like the arrival of the Messiah! I hope it happens here!

The other way around. Biblically the day of worship was Sunday, and stayed that way for 20 centuries. The movement to Saturday worship by Christians is an entirely modern idea. Google "Sabbatariarianism".

That's why in all the languages you mention, the word for Sunday is "The Lord's Day," just as it is called in the Bible.

Sabbatariarnism is just a skewed view of the Sabbath (I know this thread is being hijacked and I apologize)…A desire to restore the traditional Sabbath for Christians to the same day as the OT, and current Judaism, who devoutly celebrate the Sabbath as they are directed to do as they still abide by the OT promises, not recognizing Jesus as their Messiah.

The Sabbath was, per the OT, an observance on Saturday (as we know it to be now). With the NT, and the new promise, the Sabbath, which is not a Christian term but an OT testament term, but recognized nonetheless as a term acceptable.

Consequently, with the resurrection of Jesus, being accepted as having occurred on a Sunday, modern day Christians, beginning with the Apostles, recognized that day as the special day in which Jesus rose from the grave, thus the new recognition of a day of recognition and celebration.

Thus, the New Testament = New Promise.

Aloha,
Mike
