Default Wrist Tape unprofessional?

Sprained my wrist last night and have to work a game today. It happens to be my right wrist and was wondering if wrist tape on your action hand is considered unprofessional as an umpire.

Thoughts?

Shouldn't be an issue if you're protecting an injury.

If it was flourescent orange or adorned with Hello Kitty stickers, maybe

Seriously, don't sweat it, do what you have to do for a legitimate injury.

Cover it with a sweat band wide enough to hide the bandage, if showing the bandage is a concern. But I think that most coaches and players would admire an umpire who looks like he has a recent injury and still is so committed to his avocation and comes out to work the game nonetheless.

Sprained my wrist last year while at CDP during a game.
They taped it up for me between innings.
They also had some colored wrap and as long as we wore black or Navy, they would re-wrap it to match my shirt color for that game.

How do you sprain a wrist during a game? Did you actually punch somebody out?

Was BU in B.
Errant throw came right at my head.
I dropped to a knee and put my hand down and rotated with the throw to stay with the ball.
My body rotated but my wrist didn't and rolled over it.

You can buy wrist supports at a sporting goods store, or pharmacy. Much better all around than tape. I have a problem with strecthed ligaments, and bone spur on my left thumb. It would tend to get very aggravated with working the indicator, and taking the mask off. I was able to find a small brace that held the thumb in place. Worked better than the tape I had to use on a temporary basis.

Its not unprofessional. Your well-being is #1. Do what you have to do. Like others have said maybe even get the wrist support.
