Question: on a called third strike, the pitched ball is still "in flight" if it hits, say, catcher's mask first, then is gloved? Or does it have to hit the mit or hand first?
It has to touch the mitt or hand first. After that, it can ricochet off the mask or other equipment or body of the catcher and still be caught for a foul tip. If it hits any other part of the catcher first, it is an ordinary foul.

Careful Augie he's talking called strikre.

Let him go - he'll just keep nitpicking every word, comma, semi-colon, and dirt smudge on the page.

You are right. Damn my reading skills are letting me down here lately. Probably multitasking too much and not paying enough attention.

I revise my answer then. It is a caught ball, since it did not hit the ground or any foreign object, only hit the player equipment. It should be a catch just like a batted ball off the mask (that a stupid catcher did not remove to catch a fly ball).

Not too many catchers letting strike three called hit them in the mask. Pretty high pitch to be strike three too.
