Re: 4th out appeal

This is not a valid appeal. There is no requirement for the BR to continue to 1B after the 3rd out.

Re: Obstruction

There's no need to rush the call in a situation like this, so we can afford to give the defense a chance to prove whether the ball really is lodged or not.

Re: Look Back Rule.

Your description sure sounds like a LBR violation, and when that is called, the ball is dead and other runners are returned to the last base touched at the time of the violation. I think you got it...

Re: Poop Storm....And I was right.....

Sometimes you need to accept that you may be reading it wrong when every one else is telling you that (especially when many of those have demostrated a strong knowledge of the rules and their...

Re: what's the call

Yes, it was. From the OP, I had interpreted "GB to 3B, he makes the play" to mean that F5 fielded the ball and got an out (most likely the force out on R2 by stepping on 3B). This clarification...

Re: What's the score...

I agree they don't both score, but it does matter. And the proof of it is in the OP.

Re: Pregame Meeting and Murphy's Law

Or you could have indicated a foul tip and then conferenced to confirm the catch. Either way, you are indicating to everyone that the batter did in fact make contact.

Re: What's the score...

Perhaps so that the winning team can't argue that both runs should count?

Re: Infield Fly Rule messed up

The purpose of the infield fly rule is to protect the offense from an easy double play. It is not to grant the defense an easy out (or an extra out). In the OP, since the defense got an out, I...

Re: Sure this is a Balk. Steps toward 3rd

There were no runners on base. ;)

Re: Interesting play

No, I don't waste my breath in such situations. But in this thread, we're talking to umpires. Not coaches. Not players.

Re: Leaping Hurdling

LL is based on OBR with modifications to help youngsters learn the game. As the kids get older, the modifications get relaxed so that the rules are more and more like OBR. Therefore, one should...

Re: Tagging a runner with the bear hand and ball?

Everyone here understood that, but some found it amusing to point out the typo. BTW, 'bear' can also mean the animal (hence the pun on the second amendment).

Re: What is the ruling

I don't read the OP quite that way. R3 avoided the tag by reaching 3B. He then put himself in jeopardy by overrunning the base.

If he continues to run further to LF when the fielder tries to tag...

Re: 2 Ump Sys Check Swing with BU in B or C

Didn't need to read anymore... his game just ended for arguing balls/strikes...[/QUOTE]You're going to EJ your partner for arguing balls/strikes??? Maybe you really should read it again. All of it....

Re: Balk - My Weakest Area

When I was doing LL (just a few years ago now), our district UIC held a clinic each year for kids moving from Majors to Juniors and their daddy coaches specifically to teach them about balks. These...

Re: Interference: what to do with the other runners.

Absolutely yes. R3 scored before the interference. You cannot unscore his run even though he committed the interference.

Re: Would you get the call right?

It was the coach that came from the 1B dugout. The OP never mentions where he was.

Re: Infield Fly

Back to the OP (yes, I know this thread was necro'd), why do all the rules references seem to be OBR when this is in the softball forum? Do people assume that all softball rulesets agree with OBR...

Re: Catcher throws to unoccupied base w/ runners

Some people are superstitious and think it's bad luck to include F3 on that.

Re: Right or Wrong Calls, Part 2

There is no rule about two men on the same base (i.e. nobody's out yet regardless of whether there is a force). Whenever this happens, let the play continue and hope someone figures out what to do. ...
