Re: Another coach goes berserk in an end of the year tourney

That's head coach treatment. An AC has a much shorter leash.

Re: Another coach goes berserk in an end of the year tourney

Exactly. Once you dump him, you don't have another word with him (regardless of the words he may hurl at you). In your situation (no partner), I would have calmly walked over to his head coach and...

Re: How would you handle a partner like this?

So I guess you can't have a projected substitute but you can have a retroactive one!

Re: Who's decision is it ultimately

Use common sense. If the violation is obvious, fix it. If I see an inch of a thin gold chain sticking out of the back of his neck, I'm ignoring it. I work Catholic HS games and every kid is...

Re: Batter's Interference

Saving a run often means saving the ballgame.

The OP was not about whether to keep the batter in the box on a HBP. It was about BI on a HBP. That's the silly part. A pitched ball touched...

Re: Batter's Interference

Sorry Mike, I disagree. I think it is one of the silliest threads in a while. A pitched ball touched the batter. The intent of the batter (or the pitcher, for that matter) is irrelevant.

Which...

Re: Who's decision is it ultimately

I think you did the right thing, putman. You did your best to accommodate the TD, but when the conditions crossed over YOUR line, you ended it.

I have known your assignor for years, and I know he...

Re: Apparent Obstruction In Angels-A's game

Yup. I have no quarrel with the call on the field.

Re: Apparent Obstruction In Angels-A's game

Looking at it frame-by-frame, I don't have OBS. The BR had a clear unobstructed path to 1st base the entire time. Had he continued directly to the base, he would not have collided with anyone. ...

I resemble that remark, Richard. Today, Mrs. Dash and I are celebrating 34 years of wedded bliss.

To take away the DP and put a runner in scoring position.

Re: Does FED have a 'no penny tax' rule?

Maybe. It's probably better than telling the OHC he just chose a bases-clearing DP over 1st and 3rd with less than two outs.

Re: Does FED have a 'no penny tax' rule?

The problem is, the OHC doesn't know the results of the play when he makes his election. If he is being forced to make a choice, arguably he is entitled to know what his choices are beforehand.

Does FED have a 'no penny tax' rule?

FED. R3, less than two outs. F2 interferes with the batter's swing but he still hits a fly ball which is caught by F8. R3 leaves early and scores. The D does not appeal (yet). PU enforces the...

Re: Foul pop up mechanics

It doesn't have to be subtle. If there is a retouch appeal on R3, U3 can tell his (PU) partner: "I've got it John" and PU will gladly let him take it.

Re: Rundown

The 'step and a reach' concept applies to a fielder attempting to field a (misplayed) batted ball.

Re: Looks like batted ball hits batter's left foot--should I have killed it??

If you are sure the ball hit the batter, kill it (after giving your partner a half a tic to get it). If not, don't. There is never a reason for the PU to get help in this situation.

Re: Can you ask for help?

Not a good idea. If you ask the catcher to show you the ball and it pops out of his mitt, the runner is now safe and it's YOUR fault. Don't make any call until you know where the ball is. Secure...

Re: Getting help on check swings

It's about the rule and it is not a courtesy. If it's a half-swing called a ball, and the coach asks the PU to get help on the swing, the/a BU becomes the PU.
