Re: Is this an out?

I believe it would not be a catch. The language of the rule does not require intent to use the uniform to capture the ball.

Re: Is this an out?

This is exactly the reason why it was not an out. Iíll bet the umpires never saw it go in the Jersey. Itís even hard for us to see that in the video. It happened with the pitcherís back to Home...

Re: Glove Statement for Fed

I qualified to work HS in 1996. When I was in my training class the instructor pointed this out to us. He said that one of the philosophies of FED is to not require students to spend too much money...

Re: NPIW....

Seriously?? To allow the no-pitch intention walk to occur in your games would have required a coach to have read a rulebook. Havenít you learned anything after all these years?

Re: Hawaii Loses Protect on Incorrect Ruling, Which Was Upheld

Arizona! Land of the 12 month baseball season. Good luck, youíre going to love it there. By the way, Iím going to be in Tucson in mid-February hoping to have a chance to work a game with Ken.

My prayers have been answered

For years I have sent a suggestion to my state administrator to pass on to the NFHS rules committee a request to consider changing the method that the FED (and the FED alone) uses to designate the...

Re: Run down between Third / Home "Obstruction" question

In all the few leagues I have worked that allow protests, the HC is required to put his protest complaint in writing and get it to an administrator by a specific time, usually the the next day. One...

Re: Run down between Third / Home "Obstruction" question

The short answer is YES. Let the coach protest anything he wants.

About 23 years ago I was working the plate in a Little League junior league (13u) game. There was a play at the plate where F2 set...

Re: Run down between Third / Home "Obstruction" question

I agree with everything you say about allowing a coach to lodge a protest. I have long suggested to avoid trouble that an umpire always accept any protest regardless if it’s for a judgement call....

Re: Run down between Third / Home "Obstruction" question

Contact is NEVER required to rule a fielder has committed obstruction. The only requirement is that the fielder, without the ball, has hindered the runnerís progress and caused the runner to alter...

Re: Courtesy Runner Question

The only thing in the OP that was handled improperly was letting that dumb coach stay in the game. He should have been ejected for for being a asshat.

It’s possibly true that a runner must...

Re: BOO? (Baseball, not Casper)

This situation reminds me of a situation that happened to me about 22 years ago. Eerie how similar it is......

I will admit right here that the problem was MY fault for not being vocal enough. I...

Re: Retouching third base

Prior to the runner stepping off of live ball ground, the runner would have to first retouch home plate prior to returning to third base.

Re: Do you agree with this?

Disagree. Last time by corrects the base runnerís infraction of missing second base on his retreat.

Re: Laz Diaz

I think the SS side works better because it is the angular equivalent of the third base line extended view at Home applied at second base.

Re: Batters INT

I think we can keep the interpretation the same despite Joe Torreís opinion. I found the article and it is basically an excerpt from an unscripted interview with Chris ďMad dogĒ Russo on Sirius XM....

Re: Batters INT

I canít believe MLB would publicly comment negatively on a judgement call of a play where there was no protest or argument. That is throwing the umpires under the bus. Iíd like to see the article.

Re: Laz Diaz

In recent years Iíve noticed that MLB pits U2 on the outside when second base is occupied.

Re: LOSA - Lack Of Situational Awareness...

Why no "out" call/signal?
Bases were LOADED.
Batter became a batter-runner on the U3K.
Runners were FORCED to advance.

Re: LOSA - Lack Of Situational Awareness...

I believe Youíre referring to the look back rule. That rule does not take effect until the batter reaches first base.
