Game was well done. The PU was calling strikes 2-3" off the outside consistently, which is OK for LL. Unfortunately he punched out 2 Hawaii batters on strike three's that both were 12" outside, no exaggeration! The first one was a 3-2 pitch that was the 2nd out with two runners on at 2nd and 3rd. The next batter grounded out to F4 and ended the inning. That same ground ball might have tied up the game since the score was 2-1 at the time.

The Hawaii manager also asked UR about F8's catch, but I think he said "it's not my call." When F8 runs forward for a possible trouble ball, who's responsibility is it?

I noticed all week that U2, who is always in the outfield at TOP, would always pivot to the infield on any hit to CF. That implied that some other umpire had the catches by F8. When UR was questioned he said "it was actually UL's call," but he then added that "...to my eye it was a good catch." The HC still ran across the field to ask UL. It was a very good catch.

Thought the same about the zone Richard. That 3-2 punch out was the only one that got me yelling at my tv. I'm sure he'll watch the video and do the same.

I think on the F8 diving catch, the Hawaii manager wanted to know if the ball came out. He asked if the fielder dropped it. From a live view, the way the glove moved and the fielder rolled to block his glove from the infield, it may have appeared like F8 had lost control.

I also think his 3B coached confirmed the catch to him as he returned to the dugout.

Well played game overall. Nice D with the exception of those 2 "whoops" throws by Japan.

No problem. I didn't see the game, either.
