Today, I'm BU...GB to F5 who throws to F3 in an attempt to retire the BR.

The throw is in plenty of time but handcuffs F3, and he ends up pinning the ball to his leg using the back of his glove.

He holds it there, looking at me and I make no signal until after BR passes the bag. At this point, I call "safe, no control," making the safe sign followed by the 'juggled the ball' mechanic. After this, I did my best to channel Tim Tschida and demonstrate that the F3 did not have firm and secure possession of the ball as he had pinned it to his body.

Correct mechanic?

Depends on what the 'juggled ball mechanic' looks like. I think juggle, and I'm thinking of clowns, peanuts, and Big Top Tents!

I normally signal the safe, point and announce "no catch" or "no control". I've done both and really have only had a question out of less experienced managers. It's easier to explain why it's not a "catch" IMHO.

I would steer away from using the word "catch" here because F3 does not need to catch the ball to gain firm and secure possession of it. The ball can be rolled to F3 on the ground and he could bend over and pick it up. Hardy a catch.

In the OP I would call "Safe! No control." Since the ball isn't actually being juggled (i.e. in the way an infielder can't seem to get a handle on the ball) I would use the juggle mechanic. I would just point at the ball and say "You don't possession of the ball. You to have the ball in your hands," since the rule requires the infielder to have possession of the ball, held in the infielder's hand or glove. The rule says nothing about F3 having to "catch" it. It's always good to use the text of the rule when explaining a violation.

Where can you find video of mechanics like "on the transfer" and other little ones? DK3 is another one that I practice but would like to see more examples.

Jim Evans' book MAXIMIZING THE TWO-UMPIRE SYSTEM, is a good source. I is not a video, but is have 100's of step-by-step illustrations of the mechanics. It is avaialble on this website at http://www.umpire.org/store/product_info.php?cPath=1_23&products_id=101
