Anyone have any comments on this after this season? Iowa season will start on Monday 5/24...just curious how it has worked.
It is the Assistant Coach rule.

We had no problems during the season. But...
Kind of like a strong seasoning in food-- be careful how you use it, and don't overuse it.

It was used twice in our association this year
Each time was wtih an AC I could have guessed it would affect at the beginning of the year

I had this come up in a game early in the season. I was PU. My partner had a close call for the third out at first base. As AC was heading back to his dugout (3B side) he ranted loudly about the call being horribly several times.
Partner dumped him and then restriced HC to dugout. HC claimed he didnt know the rule. He was pissed at his AC not us. I bet that he didnt have that problem again for the remainder of the season. I think it is a great rule.
Had a playoff game last week. 4 man crew, I was 1BU. Third out had a whacker at 1st. AC coach softly complains and takes two steps over the foul line to where I was standing. Technically he did leave the Coaches box to complain. I did not think he deserved to be dumped.
I agree that this rule needs to be used with good judgement.

I don't have 2010 rule book handy, but I don't think that the AC leaving the coach's box to argue is an EJ offense in and of itself. I believe that both AC and HC are to be restricted for this offense.

You can EJ or restrict the AC, and the HC is restricted only.
That said, in the BlueFish's play, the AC was on his way back to his dugout. There's some case that implies that the HC might not be restricted. IN the case play, the AC questions a ruling, so it's less egregious than Bluefish's play.
