Working bases last night in LL Major Game.
Bottom of 1st.
In Outside C and make a quick sprint onto infield grass to make a call at 1B.
Very sharp pain in right calf and I go down hard and the F Bomb comes out.
My partner, both coaching staff and all the infielders where around me asking if I was ok.
No one had to ask if BR was safe or out as it wasnt even close....lol.
Finished game from B position so I did not have to move and turned 3B over to PU.
Went to Dr this morning, out two weeks for torn calf muscle.
Dr said common sprinter injury.
On crutches for at least a few days also.
Give me Beer and my meds.
Oh...I usually do stretch before each game...Guess what I failed to do last night and it was a lil cold out.
Broke my pre-game stretching routine because I was going over a lot with partner that was working his first game in 4 years.
He also did well, just needs a little more work.
He has a game on bases tonight and I will hobble my butt out on crutches to work with him and eval his base work.

Yikes! I "almost always" stretch ... this will encourage me to do it every time.

Will they let you "work with him" on crutches? That's a mental image worth remembering.

Sorry for your pain, and Get Well Soon.

I will be sitting in the 1B Bull Pen watching and can talk with him between innings.
Don't forget to stretch.
This is my 1st torn calf muscle and I don't ever want another one.

I am sorry to hear that your hurt, you're one tuff guy to finish the game because I know you must of been is some pain. And that is great that you are going to game on crutches and try and help a fellow umpire. Semper_Fi_72 get well soon.

Sorry to hear about the torn muscle, however, you almost allways have time to stretch.

Ala Ichiro: When you go into shallow right field, you have an opportunity to stretch the calvs, hammys, and groin. Simple 5 second stretches of the leg muscles. When you get onto the rail for the first batter, you've got another opportunity to at least stretch the calves with a brief scissor stance.

I suffered the same injury two weeks ago. I was doing 18U on the bases, went with the BR on a extra base hit with nobody on. After the pivot, on my third stride somebody hit me in the calf with a 90mph fastball. At least that is what it felt like. After the play, I was looking for the stray ball that hit me. Barely made it thru that game, could not walk the next day without crutches. Used crutches for a few days, then just tried to stay off of it.

Good luck.

Darn snipers. I will stretch before each game, try and do at least 15 minutes and take an aspirin or two, that usually helps. I beat up my hammie a couple of weeks ago, stretched but didnt take aspirin for playoff game.... Believe me, felt like a dope...

Get better soon...
