On their website http://www.schuttsports.com/aspx/Sport/ProductCatalog.aspx?id=353, Schutt claims that their warm up bat has been approved for use in the NFHS. Does anyone have additional information on this.
If so, then can other devices that "look like a bat" be used to warm up such as a lead pipe with a welded disk attached for a knob?

I thought that FED had a rule where only an actual bat could be used for warm-ups.
IMO, that Schutt product looks nothing like a bat.

1-3-3
Only bats may be used in loosening up (including weighted bats for this purpose)
Legal
It is a weighted bat designed for the purpose of loosening up.
Picture does not show a grip, so it has to be taped.
A lead pipe with a knob would not be legal as the pipe was not specifically designed for that purpose. It was altered for that purpose.

This is a follow-up from last year. With the changes that are in effect concerning bats, let me re-ask the question about the legality of this product. It does not contain the barrel. For warm up purposes, Fed Rule 1-3-3(4) says "Only bats may be used in warming up"

1-3-4 contains the following in parenthesis (including weighted bats used for this purpose)
Legal
There is no NFHS rule 1-3-3(4).

The way I was trained to read the NFHS Rule Numbers.
1 = Rule Number
3 = Section under rule number
4 = Article under the Section Number
Therefore the correct rule number is 1-3-4
Rule 1 Section 3 Art 4

I concur with semper_fi that the proper rule reference is 1-3-4 (because it is. Yes, I'm sure.) Rule 1-3-3 has an "a" and a "b", but it doesn't have a "4".
I am inclined to agree with him that the device referenced in the OP is legal under FED rules, but I have no idea what Fed really intends with their statement about "including weighted bats used for this purpose".
The device DOES conform to the constraints defined in 1-3-2(c), so until FED clarifies otherwise, I'd allow it.

Just about every HS team in CT uses these. We have never had an issue with them or them using them.

Have seen these being used and it doesn't seem to be a real issue here either.
