View Full Version : Balk to 2B?

I did not see the Mets game last night, nor have I seen a replay of this play. With a runner at 2B, I heard that a Padres pitcher turned and threw a pick to 2B. Neither F4 nor F6 was there to take the throw. The throw was directly at the base and went into short CF. A balk was called. Anyone see this?

i saw this.ss was behind 2nd base,about 10-15 ft. a little to the ss side,trying to keep runner close.pitcher spun,hesitated,then threw the ball.balk called

If a balk was called as described here then the same MLB umpire crew made two terrible calls in the same game.

peavy jump-stepped towards firstbase and threw to 2ndbase. thats why the balk was called.

" . . . peavy jump-stepped towards firstbase and threw to 2ndbase. thats why the balk was called."
So if this is what was called the title of this thread is incorrect.
Actually it was the same crew making grevious errors in back-to-back games (see thread for pitching replacement).

the jump turn was really odd.he did hesitate, almost looked like a pump because ss was not at 2nd base, then he threw the ball.didnt seem like he jumped to 1st.gotta see that replay again
