Hi Everyone,
Have any of you ever had problems with Gerry Davis Sports? I've ordered with them many times in the past and have always been extremely pleased (which is why I've always gone back to them). Going through an issue now, though, that may change the status of my loyalty. Don't want to get into details just yet, as I'm waiting to hear from Scott Ehret, their manager of operations.
Just wanted to see if anyone else has ever been there with them, and if you've seen that customer service is sometimes not the top priority.
Thanks,
Ryan

Oh man, did you hit a nerve!
I ordered a whack of stuff last year from them. When it never showed up, I called and was told the hold up must be at "customs." After about 5 weeks of this, I called customs and they had nothing. I called and complained again, and was finally told that they had shipped everything to the wrong address, and my stuff had been returned to them! Not my damn "customs" fault at all it seems.
And no apology.
I cancelled my order and wrote a respectful complaint to them. It was ignored.
Or maybe it's stuck in "customs". Who the hell knows or gives a damn. I'll never deal with them again. EVER.

I wrote a restrained letter about their low-grade so-called professional ball bags that unravel after very little use. I stated that I am curious as to why they would put their name and a premium price tag on something so inferior.
I got two more of the same ball bags in the mail. They've held up nicely sitting in a storage box. I would never think of using their ball bags again. And at the premium price you pay for everything at GD, why wouldn't you go elsewhere for everything? I'm a regular consumer. I can do what I'm told when I'm being sent elsewhere.

The more I think about it (especially with your responses in mind), and the longer I go without a response from the customer service rep or the operations manager, the more I'm thinking my future business will be elsewhere.
Honestly, all the excellent things I've heard (along with the total lack of bad comments) about Jim Kirk and ump-attire, are really helping out too.

There's also this guy "Rex" at Between the Lines. He seems OK. My order is delayed, and he cheerfully offered to cancel and not charge me, etc., but I said no and I'll wait on the backorder. I haven't seen the stuff yet, but so far he seems like a stand up guy.
As for GD, I think your more immediate issue is just getting your money back, never mind the stuff! Good luck with that....

Ryan,
Give Scott a call directly. His direct line is in the catalog under the Special Order section. He is in AZ so you need to factor that in on the time that you call. He is the person that can resolve your issues for you. I have found him to be very fair to deal with over the years and I've had many dealings with him.

I've ordered from Between the Lines a number of times and always had good service. When it comes to overall service, Ump Attire and Between the Lines are close to the top of the list. Lester's Upstate Sports is right there with them.

About 3 years ago a Honigs retail store opened up about six mile from my front door. I haven't had to pay shipping charges or worry about customer service since that day. I walk in, try things on, see how they feel, and take them home. If they don't have what I want in stock in the local store, they get it from the main store in Ann Arbor, MI and I come back in a week and there it is!

Same here, except they're 45 miles away. So I hit em on the way to Disneyland or an Angels game.

Can anyone get me this number? I'm a web-only guy when it comes to ordering items to be shipped. Don't think I've ever even had a hard copy of the catalog.
Thanks,
Ryan

Resolved!
From the "customer service" rep:
We will reship your package today UPS ground to the school address.
(I'm thinking that's my unwritten response from Scott...)

I order most of my equipment from GD and have never had a problem so far and always get a reply to my questions. Mail to overseas can really be a problem especailly when it is so slow at times or sent to a wrong APO and when you get it it has stamped on the package sent to a different one when it has the correct address on it in the first place. Or a package sent from Hawaii thet took three months and sent 1st class. Glad that you had your problem corrected.
I have done business with Gerry Davis (Scott included) for years. I have never had a problem with shipments. Anything that wasn't right was replaced immediately, I was always treated courteously and never questioned if I returned something for any reason at all.
Guess I have been lucky.

I've never had a problem with Gerry Davis either. I do order stuff every year and never have an issue. We are also lucky in my area that Jay Minor (writer for Referee Mag) is a Gerry Davis distributor. He lives about 20 min from my house. His house is like Toys R Us for Umpires....He has everything in crazy quantities.

I used to order from them almost exclusively however since moving to Los Angeles Im in the same boat as Finn. Here in Long Beach the Honigs office is less than 30 miles away so I usually go in there and work with Alfonso and never have a problem.
However, I think for everything besides uniforms I will be going with Jim Kirk at Ump-Attire.
