I've realized recently that I need to know more then I do about "catch and carry". I know (or think I know) that it refers to a sitch where a fielder catches a ball in flight and then carries it out of play.
1. Is it always in effect or can it be a ground rule that any C & C sitch is always a dead ball when the ball is carried out of play?
2. If the fielder maintains control of his body and stays on his feet does he always have to bring it back into live play area before he can make a throw or is that a matter of "ground rule"? Can you for instance make a ground rule that a fielder can throw from dead ball area and the ball remains live?
3. If the fielder makes a catch and his momentum takes him out of play does it matter how far out of play? I had a partner the other day tell me the fielder only gets two steps and after that he'd call it dead and award bases. That doesn't seem right.
4. I believe that the ball staying live depends on the fielder staying on his feet or maintaining control of his body, as in a sitch where he had to slide to make the catch and that if/when the fielder falls down out of play the ball becomes dead and bases are awarded, correct?
5. Are there big difference in Fed, NCAA and OBR?
6. Is this one of the resons that I should cough up the $48 for the Jaksa/Roder Manual?
