View Full Version : Charcoal Grey ball bags

I got a pair of charcoal grey ball bags to match my Gerry Davis charcoal grey slacks. I wear black when appropriate and navy when appropriate, but I suppose I'll work these grey ones in--unless I hear from you guys that they're some kind of a code violation.
I do have a question: Which of the leading sites sell the best pro ball bag? Ball bags have improved a lot since I bought my last set. Ump-attire has that ultimate bag that's high-quality, but has that ridiculous elastic gather on the opening that looks awful. The guy I know who has them claims that he had to dye them after a year because they fade into a purple color. Are their pro bags without the elastic of good quality? The Gerry Davis ones look pretty good. How about Honig's? Their pictures are so awful, you can't tell the quality by looking at them.
I know it's not a critical piece of gear, but if you have any ideas ...
Thanks.

I personally know the designer and original owner of the Ump Attire bag so I got them first. I liked the size and weight/feel and the zipper pocket but hated the elastic and the fact that the material faded very quickly. My son wears them now and really likes them no matter what anyone says. He only does HS JV and summer ball since he is only 21.
I had Gerry Davis. They looked great but are kind of small if you like to put more than two balls in them. The inside pockets are lined with cordura that prevents moisture from getting to your pants. I ripped one trying to get a ball out at the point where the stitches are on the top side front (opening) so I borrowed a friend's Honig's bag.
I liked the Honig's bags so much I bought them. I do not like the inner pockets and am considering cutting the pockets out of one of them and using it for my right side bag and the pocketed one for the left side and keeping my extra indicator, line-up card holder and pen in it. Not sure how long they last yet but they are a stretchy wool blend material like a tropical worsted. Big enough to put three to four balls in each comfortably if necessary. (I usually like three in the left and two in the right.) I think they look the best as well. I don't remember any questions about ball bags before so this post might have helped me when I got started a few years ago and I would have bought Honig's from the start.
Hope this helps. YMMV.

That's VERY helpful. Thank you.
I agree with the assertion that the GD bags are a little small.
I'm going with the Honig's for the navy and black sets. The GDs will do as the greys, because the fabric they use is the same as the slacks.
Any opinion on wearing ball bags that match the slacks? I haven't done that yet.

Your purse should match your belt.

Your purse should match your belt.
I guess that says it all.
Next question is standard leather belt or high gloss?

Got it. No white belts (glossy or regular leather) after Labor Day.

I just canceled my white patent leather belt order.
This is saving me a bundle.

I lost my black +pos ball bags, I think I left them on top of my car and drove off.......(dumba$#)...but I had to replace them quick. My local supplier had the Diamond ball bags in stock and I bought 2 of them.
These have to be the worst ball bags on the market. The material is cheap and flimsy and the workmanship is poor. If they hadnt been packaged in plastic I would have been able to avoid buying them. They worked for my summer tourney season, but would never hold up to a good seasons wear.........a waste of $20....
I had the same question, asked around.....took the advice of a good friend and recently ordered the Honigs bags....

Honig's it is ... Thank you.
I know it's trivial, but we're gear freaks and we're anonymous, so we're not really exposing ourselves as the freaks that we are by discussing things like flimsy ball bags.
I wear two ball bags (Gerry Davis) with inner pockets, 3 balls in each and I have no problem -- the size is perfect.
Oh, sorry, I also cheat! I keep my brush in my back pocket and my pen and line up folder in my shirt pocket or plate coat inner pocket. I do not carry seeds, gum, cell phone, gun, towel, car keys, tools, PDA, rule books or any other incidentals. That may make a difference to some people!

The Honigs Ball bags arrived last night........and they are far superior to the Diamond Ball Bags that I had the misfortune to purchase after losing my +pos bags...
The material is first rate, workmanship is excellent and have a substantial feel. The price was right, and they shipped fast...what more can you ask for??

I also wear two.. I tried to wear one and it felt way to weird... I do put my brush in my ball bag, I hate the Bristles poking me in by back side..LOL
I usually only have a piece of gum before the game.. and Like you I dont carry anything else... But here in Missouria nd other places its very hot and humid, So Imight take a small hand towel out there and hide it behind the plate so I can wipe off sweat.

I cut the bristles to about 1 1/2" from the wood base. I cannot stand a full length brush! This also prevents the "bristle butt" you referred to.

... Sunscreen, lip balm, eyeglass cleaning wipes, spare indicator, spare sunglasses, spare pencil, spare shoelaces, wood plate brush with extra long bristles, comb, mouthwash and smelling salts ... so I was thinking I'd carry three ball bags.

The third ball bag will come in handy when you split your pants in the rear.
