I love mlb and watch a lot of games on ESPN in which they use the K-Zone. As a spectator I like it but I bet the umpires don't think too much of it. Does anyone know how it works and mainly I was wondering if it is three dimensional. It seems that if it is just a two dimensional square representing the zone it's accuracy would be limited since a strike could just get part of the plate and never pass through K-zones reading area, In any event I am impressed with the accuracy of the mlb umpires when compared to the K-Zone, most of the time what they call is exactly what it shows.

there is a trained monkey in a booth that punches on a touch screen.

So in other words, McCarver is a multi-tasker, is that what you're saying? :)

It's just another dog-and-pony show, useful in second-guessing umpires.
YMMV

Peter Gammons said the other night on Sports Center when they were gushing over instant replay coming that he didn't feel K-Zone was right 100% of the time.

Are you suggesting McCarver is trained?

Obviously the monkey has not attended one of Lance Cokalinski's combines.
