Legion Baseball Game
OBR
Team 1
1 Player Abel F4
2 Player Baker F2
3 Player Charlie F9
4 Player Dan F5
5 Player Edward F3
6 Player Fred F6
7 Player Greg F7
8 Player Howard F8
9 Player Isaac DH
10 Player Jason F1
In bottom of 7th inning, Team A prior to going out to play
defense... HC comes to me with the following changes...
Player Edward F3 now going into pitch
Player Karl subbing for Player Isaac in DH spot and going into 1st base
Team B head coach says the move isn't legal
I say subbing for DH and moving to defensive position is legal and
DH is now terminated for remainder of game

I am assuming the DH was hitting for player Jason (F1)?
From the American Legion Rule Book
Rule 1F
...If a pinch hitter or pinch runner for the designated hitter is used that player becomes the new designated hitter....
The role of the designated hitter is terminated for the remainder of the game when:
a. The defensive player, or any previous defensive player for who the designated hitter batted, subsequently bats or pinch-hits for the designated hitter; or
b. The designated hitter or any previous designated hitter assumes a defensive position.

I do not call in any league that uses the AL DH rule, so my answer is strictly based on what I have seen on TV and read in the rules, and I appologize in advance if I am incorrect.
I do not see a problem with what was done, but how about this solution. Since Isaac was batting for Jason, could you have declared Karl as the sub for Jason instead of Isaac? That way, the role of the DH was eliminated when Karl came out to play 1B and the B coach would have nothing to complain about.
