The Local Cal Ripken youth league is hosting a state semi-state tournaments for several age groups this summer. They have told us in order to work these games, we need to get "Cal Ripken Patched" Does anyone have a link or information on how to become "Cal Ripken Patched"?

Be careful, bigcityp, you never know what will happen next... I mean, first you get "patched," then you'll get pinned, then before you know it, you're picking out dishes and drapes...

I'm sure your tourney is here and gone by now since CR state's are going on now. But for future reference, your league admins are getting their facts mixed up. The only people that need to "patched" in district, state, and regionals are the players and coaches. The umpires need to have credible association certification in order to work these tourneys. One association that would be accepted is the Babe Ruth National Umpire Association. Another would be a certification from the local High School association. The only umpire patch that is ever required in CR tourney play, to my knowledge, is the Babe Ruth NUA patch, but that would be only if you are working a Cal Ripken or Babe Ruth World Series. If you want to get certified into the NUA, it costs 35 bucks, they send you a 100 question test that you take open book at home, then mail it back in. They score it, and if you got 80 or more right, you are certified.

Blue,
Here in Indiana you would not be allowed to work a state level tournament without both a patch and a NUA certification card. During an Ohio Valley Regional, where we're assigned to the tournament, you'll have to show proof that your membership is current when you arrive.

Absolutely correct.
District tourneys you need not be NUA certified. But for the State tourneys.. you must be NUA certified.. and patched.
And that my friends.. is NATIONAL RULES!
