Anybody ever toss someone after the game was over and before you left the field?

Yes. They think they have immunity once the winning run scores or the last out is made. But that is not the case.

Yes, a player yelled as I was almost out of the gate leaving the field that the call on the corner was bullshit. I turned around and waited for him to finish shaking hands with the other team. When he got back to his dugout, I informed him he was ejected. The look on his face was priceless. He said I couldn't do that, but he found out differently.

After the PU called the third out in a game ending play at the plate at a district play-off game, he, my other partner and I tried to hustle off the field. The head coach of the losing team ran to intercept us and began berating us as we continued to head for the exit. About half way there he directed the magic word at the three of us and, almost as if it were choregrpahed, we all tossed him, simulataneously.
He, too, thought he couldn't be ejected, but found out otherwise when the following week he was removed from his dugout by a district rep prior to the start of the loser-out district game. I thought the game's title was appropriate.

Yes. High School. Assistant coach of WINNING team started yelling at me as I walked off the field. He said the magic words: You're a _____. I tossed him
He said I couldn't toss him. I said, "well, you'll soon find out when you get the (mandatory) $100 fine notice."
I followed-up with my assignor...and he WAS fined and WAS suspended for one game. (Mandatory penalties for first ejection of the year).
Also, had one in college. I tossed assistant coach and filled out a suspension report. It was upheld. Another case of an assistant coach running his mouth after a game.

i have a good one... last play of the game last game of the HS season... Varstiy Ball... I am behind the dish, 2-2 count. the pitcher drills one down the pipe at the kness... he takes it looking....STRIKE Three.
He truns and looks at me and says out loud "That was a Bulls**t call", of course I tossed him, he looks at me and laughs... and says "last game stupid". I looked at him and said your only a Junior right and he says yes... I start laughing, and I say "Do you play any fall sports?" he say yes golf.. I tell him he has just set himself up to sit out the first 2 matches in the fall... he looks at me in disbelief. The head coach had come up by now and the kid looks at him and the coach confirms the 2 match suspension...
He was the golf teams #2 golfer... lets just say that the golf coach was really PO'd... they only have 10 matches... I did follow up with the AD at the school and he did 25hrs of School Community service and only sat out 1 match

I can't imagine havng such a civil converstion with a player once he is ejected. Once he is tossed he no longer exists.

Not to mention, I can't imagine giving a rat's behind about the suspension or for what sport. I'm concerned with what is going on within those fences at that time--nothing more.

Interesting concept ! Here in New Mexico, to my best knowledge, "next game" suspension following an ejection, player or coach, is "sport specific". I have not seen a football ejection/suspension apply to basketball; softball to track; etc.
Our state association places the burden on enforcement of the punitive suspension squarely upon the school. On at least one occasion, several years ago, I had an opponent coach raise the issue of a player who was participating rather than "serving" his suspension. I referred him to the other school's administrative representative, and/or the state association. I believe my responsibility ends with the reporting of the ejection to the state association.

When I was still playing ball in an adult league, one of the idiots from my team got ejected after the game during the season ending tournament. We won the game, but as we were shaking hands with each other immediately after the game, the guy caught up to the PU and said, "Now that the game is over, I want to let you know that you #*$&*@( SUCK as an umpire!!!"
The umpire calmly told the idiot that he was being ejected from the game. The idiot declared, "You can't eject me! The game is over!"
Guess who sat out the next game....

On the same note, here in California, if you are ejected in a game in HS you sit out the next game. If a player that is supposed to be out for the game due to an EJ the previous game you make a note of it and at the end of the game report to your area liason. Let them take care of it after the fact.

I was involved in a varsity level game in NY, where I was plate umpire. I am a college umpire and split my time at the time between three HS groups.
I was doing a game in a rural town between two teams in a fairly non-competitive league (I acutally got the game after another game went down).
The game was oddly chippy all game. I stopped it at the plate, but I guess my base umpire - who literally wears rose colored glasses, didn't seem to notice. I issued warnings for bench chatter in about the 5th inning.
I had this odd unsettled feeling at the end of the game. We were walking out the RF line to our cars, and I told my partner to wait a second, and turned and watched the handshake from about 300 feet away, but still in play. He said there was no way there would be a problem. I told him to just wait a sec, and no sooner did they start shaking hands then somebody shoves another player (apparently after they spit on their own hand prior to the handshake). Needless to say a brawl breaks out. We come back in at a brisk jog and get the mele broken up with the coaches (no player touching involved).
I advise the coaches that the players we saw shove or throw punches were ejected, giving numbers - and that the league suspension rules apply - when asked for specifics I told them there is a mandatory one game suspension for ejection in our section, plus any the section hands down for the fighting. We listened to the well if you get this kid, you have to get that one for a bit and held one team on the field (visitors) while the home team got in the building, then send the visitors to the bus (home was closer to where they had to go). I think we had it sorted out fairly well, and balanced.
I wrote up a fairly quality ejection report, details, facts, no emotion, as normal. The one rural HS board I belonged to told me that I should have left quickly and not come back, once the game is over it is over (none of the umpires there work college baseball and would wash out in the middle or below of a larger group). I disagree and still do. For that and other reasons, I opted not to work with them anymore.

Just once ... after the game ... I'd like to confine a coach to the dugout.
Me: "Coach ... you're confined to the dugout. Don't come out until or unless there is a fight or an injury."
Coach: "But the game's over!"
Me: "Yep ... figures to be a looooooong night."
And what is this $100 fine? Here in TN it's $250 and 2 games. There is no exception for first time.

What, No gate closer to leave the field?
and I told my partner to wait a second, and turned and watched the handshake from about 300 feet away, but still in play.
Get off the field when the game is over!

Are you looking for ejections?

*SIGH* Your right. I leave the the field right away 99.9999% of the time. Our car was out in LF. We didn't go out the side gates as we didn't want to go through the parents. They were chippy too. I don't look for EJs. I don't look for problems. I sensed the static in the air as I was 300 feet away (I didn't hang around). I stopped, turned around, and there was a brawl.

I viewed a brawl one time, from the concession stand....there we were, getting our hot dogs and coke, and the handshake line at the American Legion game turned ugly, and we smiled, took another bite of the dog, and continued on to our cars.....

If still on the field the umpire crew still must take care of business. Here it really means taking numbers / details for a report & making sure the coaching staffs get the kids separated. From the parking lot what can we really do except send a note to the assignor about what we observed during and post game (Facts and nothing else).
