I just recently started umping in our local kid pitch league. I was behind the plate doing 9-10's. The count went to 0-2 on called strikes, the second one high and inside. Batter says in a somewhat loud voice, "that was a ball". I decided to use something I had read on these forums to address him. I called time to clean the plate off and quietly and discreetly discussed him expressing his opinion on the pitch. I told him he could not argue balls and strikes. I doubt if he realized he had done anything wrong.
On the next pitch he ripped a hard grounder up the middle as well as ripping a nice fart on me and the catcher as he swung. As I came back to the plate I looked at the catcher and asked him if he had heard what I did. He laughed and said "guess he told you".
