Called out on strikes looking, then said "You gotta be fu**ing kidding."
Gone. Then turned to the scorer and said loudly "Involuntary substitution, number 30, visitors."

I had a similar situation this weekend...14u USSSA ,first pitch curve ball...strike! second pitch inside catches corner...strike! third pitch in the ground I call ball...the batter says ( ball? are you sure?) I said as sure as you are out of the ball game.....he was done...... 8O

I don't really think that would warrant an ejection. I would have simply told him to let me call the balls and strikes and for him to concentrate on playing the game.

Ball hits the ground and the player says are you sure its a ball? I dont know about you, but I do not tolerate things like that... 8O

stripes,
If you allow that kind of treatment you're in for some very long games.
IMO, smart ass = good-bye

I guess it all depends on the tone of voice. Around here, umpires get along with players and coaches great, something said like that would result in the catcher, umpire and player chuckling about it.

My favorite sound bite on this topic, when Carl Childress used to tell the story of a batter stepping in the box, then looking back and seeing Carl, and stepping out and yelling down to his coach, " Hey Coach, I can't hit this ump!"
