ASS't coach continual chirping about balls & strikes, not too loud, not constant, no big deal. I'm not even looking over there. Then, Kc on one of his batters. All of the sudden, I hear "HOMER! WE'RE GETTING A HOME JOB!"
Not exactly sure which ASS't, so I said "you- with the sunglasses- go get on the bus- you're done for today". Problem was, they were all wearing sunglasses! The ONE, not knowing that I didn't know which one, hollered "TRUTH HURTS, DOESN'T IT?". Ha Ha, now I know I've got the right one! Bub-bye!

Not the best situation with everybody having sunglasses but the coach made it easy for you.

Pick a guy, any guy in that sitch. Just point in the general direction of the dugout and give the finger toss, and he'll know who he is. If nobody moves, toss the head coach. Somebody's gone, and if someone else takes the fall, odds are the guy off the hook will pipe up again and you can toss a two-fer.

Or point to their clean-up hitter or their pitcher and say: yep, that sounded like it came from you and you're ejected. The coach isn't going to want his clean-up hitter or pitcher ejected the coach will probably say something like "c'mon blue, it wasn't him." Your reply should be, "ok coach, who was it then?" If he doesn't give someone up, let the coach know it's either who you selceted or himself, but someone is leaving the game.

So after the coach gives up the real problem guy, you reinstate the clean-up hitter or pitcher? Not sure that is a good rule of thumb ... once they are gone, they are gone ... no comebacks.

Absolutley correct! Once ejected, no one may return to the game.
Note to FED umpires - an ejected coach may return to the field to care for an injured player only if the umpire allows him to do so!

Clever move.
However, in reference to other posters, I would hesitate to go after the starting pitcher or clean up hitter if I didn't know who was causing the problem. An umpire could screw up a good game by doing this.
A more practical solution would be to go after someone you are pretty sure is not in the lineup. Someone charting pitches etc. Or, hang in there for the remainder of the inning, and between innings use the lineup card routine and remind the coach he is in control of his team and if he can't control it, you will.
He then takes his chances if he doesn't do his job. And the ejection could very well be him for not controlling his team. Be careful of this though, if he is the only coach, you might have a forfeit situation.

I disagree blue. Spare the rod and spoil the child. If that Manager loses a prime player THIS time, he's more than likely NOT going to allow that kind of behavior again, remembering the consequences.
If he knows he will only lose someone not in the lineup, well then I've taken care of an inconvenience for him haven't I? Hey, he doesn't have to bat little Jonny with the .050 BA.
IMHO.

No, ejecting someone not in the game sends a message to the rest of the team. So now you got the entire team to shut up by ejecting some guy who wasn't going to play in that game anyways. Ejecting the star player is not the way to go.

I agree with Blue, if the coach wont tell you pick a guy... But then I would pick somebody on the bench, so Im not changing the outcome of the game

So Mazza are you saying that you would allow someone in the dugout to yell "Homer. We're getting a home job!"?
Thick skinned or not that's automatic, some one is going home early.
I think I see why you haven't tossed anyone yet. I would much rather be known as a redass, rather than a doormat.
To quote the late Ron Luciano, "Throwing people out of a game is a lot like learning to ride a bicycle. Once you get the hang of it, it can be a lot of fun."

First off, Im not saying you shouldn't have thrown him and yes it would have been a good reason to thrown him.

(1) I love guys who come on and post "I haven't tossed anyone in xx games..." There are only 2 reasons anyone hasn't ejected anyone in xx games: (a) The umpire hasn't had many games (that is the value of xx is low) OR (b) the umpire isn't doing his job (either because he's afraid or he's a horsecrap umpire).
(2) A coach yelling that his team is getting "homered" is the same as the coach yelling "hey blue keep cheating for the other team." Automatic good-bye.
(3) The accepted professional mechanic for handling a situation where the umpire knows someone has to get tossed, but doesn't know which person said it is the following: (a) If you know it was a coach, but don't know which coach...toss anyone of them. It really doesn't matter which one. (b) If you don't have any clue who in the dugout said it...pick someone who is not in the game. When they complain, "It wasn't me blue" respond with "then get whoever did say it to pay your fine."
(For those new posters posting in this thread: Yes, I was a pro umpire.)
(4) If you don't know who said it, you don't ever pick a starter to toss. The biggest reason for this is that instead of "taking care of a situation" and exercising good game management, you're more likely going to create a whole new intense situation. A manager/head coach who has been around for awhile will know that "someone has to go" when someone yells and implies that the umpire is cheating. The manager/head coach will go bezerk, however, if you toss his starting pitcher/star hitter when that person was not the one who said it. Thus, you will be creating more problems than you solve.
In otherwords, if you toss someone who is not in the game, that team will get the message that you're not goint to put up with anymore crap. And it often works to difuse the situation. However, this message will be lost if you toss the star player (especially when the star player did not say the offending words) because the team will be going bezerk over losing its star player when the star player didn't do anything. This will incite them even more and cause even more problems for the rest of the game.
