Scheduled 2 back to back games in a 16U 4th of july tourney (94 degrees, sunny). During the pregame conf w/ coaches and BU partner, Home team "A" coach tells us that they would be lucky to finish the game- players didnt want to play, too hot, tired, ect.
1 out, team A has R2,--- fly out to center, R2 doesnt tag, goes to 3rd...Defense appeals to BU---out #3 !
As Team A slowly goes takes the field, R2 walks out and flips my partner off....BYE!!.......and game over as they only had 9 players. I told my partner that I'd be PU for next game if he wanted,-- my mistake as next game went 3 1/2 hrs, 17-12, with no pitching from either team....

My best time for an ejection was after 1 out in the top of the 1st. It was a Pony (13-14) game about 15 years ago. Larry Leadoff struck out looking, threw his bat like a helicopter rotor blade in the direction of his dugout, and almost killed the on-deck batter. Luckily, the bat narrowly missed him.

My partner, who was the PU, was ringing him up with a big cha-ching-aling strike 3 call to his right, and did not see the incident. Old Eagle Eye Augie saw it, and jacked the kid all the way from the 1st base line.

The coach, who was a former umpire in our association (and not a particularly good one, either) walked from the 3rd base coaches box to the PU, who gave him Time, and directed him in my direction. He walked sheepishly out to me and begged me not to eject his player because he would be left with only 8 players, and he would have to forfeit. I explained that I had already ejected him, and that even if I could take it back, I wouldn't because of the violent nature of the offense.

He turned around and walked back to his dugout, my partner and I walked off the field. As we were leaving I heard him quietly chewing out the kid that got tossed, and that it should be a lesson to them to not behave that way. I guess they learned something that day.

Game time: 5 minutes. Score 7-0: forfeit. We went to the snack bar and collected the EZ money. :D

Yes, that is me in 2001. It's the most recent I have. That's an 11 year jump from the old pic. Not to mention all the extra lbs. 8O

Make no mistake about it, Steve. You were as sightly in 2001 as you were in 1990. Take that any way you will.

Midget A (U19) first rep level above house league.

Team shows up with 9 players, playing big boy baseball.

Bottom of the second, R1, long base hit to the outfield. Ball comes in for the play at the plate, has the runner beat by about 20 feet. Catcher, a real brick shithouse of a kid, is sitting on the line just waiting to give the runner a quick little hug, but the morong runner decides to lower the shoulder.

Not only did the runner end up flat on his ass, and a little worse for wear, but he was out, no run scored and he was ejected. Game over. 22 minutes, 7-0 final.

Too bad I had to wait 2.5 hours for the next game...

Wonder,

I just gotta ask....why do they name a league for 19 year olds "Midget?"

Are there actual midgets playing? Just wonderbreading.

Here it goes Mosquito (10-11), PeeWee (12-13), Bantam (14-15), Midget (16-18), Junior (19-21) Senior (21+).

Who the hell knows where they got the names... maybe from hockey?
