I was in Salisbury MD for an AAU 13U Tournament in March and it was cold and windy. The Championship game finally rolls around at 7:45pm Sunday night and for five innings it is a good game and THEN...

the visiting team and #1 seed starts losing. My zone didn't change but you wouldn't know it by listening to the teams coaches. After calling a pitch a ball several inches outside someone from the dugout yells "Get your head out of your ass and open your eyes!" I call time, the mask comes off, and I inform them that another comment such as that and I am picking someone and it would be the Manager. A few seconds later, the manager informs me and everyone else that he doesn't care because he was ready to go home. Seeya #1. Manager leaves quietly, puts the pitching coach in charge and immediately he chooses to go out to the mound and have a "conference". I prepare myself for what was about to happen: I go out and break up the conference and as I get closer I see his players laughing so I know what is about to happen. Pitching Coach says those pitches were real close and I ask him again if he is making a change and he tells me, loudly, "THOSE PITCHES WERE STRIKES ALL GAME AND NOW YOU ARE SCREWING US" Seeya #2.

Finally, he leaves and Bench Coach is at the lead of the team. As I get back into my stance after putting the ball in play I hear from the only remaining coach left, "you are horrible!"

Mask off, Time called, Game over. That league has a rule that if 3 players and/or coaches are ejected the game is forfeited.

I find out the next weekend that they had no pitching left and wanted to go home because it was so late and they had a 3 hour drive. That was my most eventful four minutes ever!

Sounds like the chicken's way out of a bad game.

3 in 4 minutes....Jeremy, you [b][i]ROCK !!

Seriously, sounds like "you done good!" What a bunch of @$$holes to want to just quit the game like that...

How did THAT bunch get a #1 seed???

"Get your head out of your ass and open your eyes!"

Sounds like you handled it well...I like the way you even went to the mound "to get it on" when you knew the pitching coach was just out there to get on you. No need to wait to have the argument.

The only thing I would have done differently is ejected the head coach/manager instead of warning him after he said what I quoted above. At the 13U level, that is definitely an ejection without a warning quote.

Perhaps maybe I should have however, I know that it was not him and I do not know who said it. Given it was a championship game, I was trying to give them a bit more line to work with. If I had known who said it, I would have ejected immediately.

--In all seriousness, that makes sense to me.

BU99,

This team was actually very good. They simply ran out of pitching and from what I was able to understand from the Pres of the Org. that team does not lose very often. Ironically, I have not seen them back since that event occurred.

I once ejected seven on one pitch.

But that story has been told too many times already.

 I liked that story...

I used a version of the "game on TV" line a couple weeks ago myself...it actually worked well

I did 7 in one game last year...seems like it was within a couple pitches or so of each other and ALL over the same play....

Oh yes, I was actually speaking methaphorically about the #1 seed...
