:? Our asociaton had three ejections this past weekend in a local USSSA tourney. Even had to send a coach myself. (He had some kitchen questions-- something about "home cookin'... I was a little offended. )
Must have been the full moon... JMB
By the way, that was three in a total of 124 games. Still not too bad, but about three times the normal...

Full moon indeed!
2 coaches and 3 parents in the stands run in a 16 game tournament on Saturday. LL coaches and parents are the worst!

Explain the running of the parents....might be interesting.

Actually in a LL tourney it is quite easy. Here they have a "Zero tolerance Rule" that extends throughout the tourney site. Anyone can get tossed for being abusive. All you do is stop the game, call the site administrator, and say "Those two must go". That's it. If administrator has to call the cops, so be it. And you get right back to the game once they clear, and yell at you "It's part of baseball to yell at umps". I've never done it, but a partner did this year in a 16-17 yo Big League tourney game.

Well, there were no parents run in MY games (my partner ran an idiot coach).. we had eight of our guys out there - each 2man crew working 4 games.
BUT here are the stories I heard.
The first 2 parents run were a married couple. UIC rang a kid up on a called strike - the parents weren't too happy about it being their kid. They complained about the strike zone, and when blue turned his back to them, like any good blue will do to fans - they called him pathetic and questioned his manhood using a few choice words.. one that is generally associated with "cats." Needless to say, he had the dad removed - and banned from the tourney for the day. When that happened - the mother let loose with some choice words, and got herself run as well.
The third parent run was a really interesting story. There was this BIG- INTIMIDATING dad who was ALL OVER a teams coach for his coaching the whole game. A parent of a player on a team was ACTUALLY heckling his son's coach. My colleague was hearing it the whole game. Finally, the coach came to the Blue and said he was sick of hearing the chirping from the stands, which the Blue was sick of it too. So, Blue went to the stands, and politely asked the parent to cease and desist. Instead, the parent told them both he would handle it with them BOTH physically after the game. Needless to say, he didn't stick around for the end of the game.
Funny how idle threats and criticism are usually made by cowardly people who don’t have the ambition to be out there in the FIRST place.

Once again, I'm sort of the northern exposure in this one -- in other words, a bit reluctant when I'm not certain of procedures in other jurisdictions -- but when it has happened to me, I've always made the coaches responsible for the fans.
In the cases you guys have described, it sounds like you could tell which side the offenders were "supporting." I don't mean you should dodge your responsibility, but IMO, the coach has a responsibility too. His parents should know what kind of example he intends to set AND what he expects of them.On a few -- thankfully VERY few -- occasions, I've gone to coaches and said, "If you could take care of this ... ? Or I will."
I haven't been let down yet.

I agree, in LL Ball, the coach has a responsibility to try and quell his team's fans. BUT his responsibility doesn't reach the point of recourse against him! Run the fans! Not the coach. The only situation I could see running a coach for this is if the coach is actually inciting the fans himself.

A couple of years ago, in a youth tournament, one of our umpires had had enough of a parent in the stands. He went over to the coach and told him that he had 2 choices, either the parent was gone or he was gone. You can guess which one left.
We always handle parents through the coach. They are his responsibility. one of the times that I have actually ejected a fan myself was when the coach couldn't handle him and I had no choice. (county sherrif deputies were there to help as well) the other was when a parent told me that I might be able to make a correct call if I took somehting out of my mouth. My answer was,"If you kept your mouth shut, you might actually get to watch a whole game. GOOD BYE!!"
