After reading the posts about the umpire who was desperately needing equipment, I thought I would throw out an idea that my association does. We have an unofficial pay it forward plan where the members will donate decent used equipment and uniforms to help outfit new umpires until they can get enough game fee's to purchase their own. I was able to use some shirts and some pants along with a hockey style mask, and it was a tremendous shot in the arm for me. I have since given back the stuff I needed and also donated some other items and it really does give one a sense of pride knowing that I can help someone starting out just as I was helped.
