FED rules.

Starting pitcher leaves the game defensively. Relief pitcher gets into trouble in the inning. Coach wants to re-enter SP to pitch. SP was not removed due to injury, ejection, charged conference requirement; relief pitcher did not use more than 8 pitches and SP still has re-entry eligibility.

Is this legal?

I allowed this to happen and can not find anything in the rules or case book that says it is illegal.

bnumpire,

It's perfectly legal which is why you can't find anything that says it's illegal.

That's what I thought. I even called a fellow umpire and he thought it was illegal but after looking at 3-1-2 & 3, he agreed that it is legal. I am going to bring the situation up at my next association meeting though.

3-1-2: "...A player may be removed as pitcher and returned as pitcher only once per inning,
provided the return as pitcher does not violate either the pitching, substitution or charged conference rule."
