Yesterday I had a game and this happened with R1 on first base and batter at the plate with a count of 2-1 on the batter score 4-1, 3rd inning. The next pitch is a fastball right down the middle of the plate and the batter swings and the next thing I hear the sound of a thud like bat and glove contact (not ball bat contact sound) and I call that's catcher interfenece. I awarded the batter first base and the catcher turns and "Says Sorry". I made sure that he was all-right. and so did the coaches. I thought this was quite different that haven't ever heard that one before a catcher saying Sorry. I just had to share this.

I've had it happen too. When the catcher turned and said "I'm sorry" to me I said, "You don't have to apologize to me, you didn't do anything to me! And you don't have to apologize to the batter either because he's out there on first base thanking you! Its not a big deal a part of the game."

Part of the game but something that seldom happens and when it does it seems that the catcher is surpraised and so is the batter.

The one time I saw it, the catcher screamed profanity all the way to his mother's car, who took him to the Emergency Room.

Similar I am Sorry occurrence during my Adult Rec game today.
Batter pops one up very high in the direction of F5/F6.
He lets out a Loud "F" Bomb.
After the ball is caught he returns to HP to pick up his bat and says I am sorry Blue.
I said for what?
He says from cursing.
I said this is adult ball, you can do that, the way you did it.
Just don't direct that word towards me directly. ;)
He was one of the younger players on the team.
