What types of things are covered by the insurance?
Sports Accident Insurance will cover officials while participating in regularly scheduled and supervised games, practice sessions, and travel as a member of the program.
Who is the insurance policy underwritten by?
The policy is underwritten by a major insurance company, specializing in sports. Since the ABUA shops around for the best coverage for its members, insurance carriers may change from year-to-year. A copy of the current policy will be provided at any time for review for all members and perspective members inquiring. To obtain a copy of the current policy, please email the ABUA office at

What benefits does the insurance offer?
• Regular ABUA Membership: Comprehensive $1 million liability insurance coverage • $100,000 accident medical plan • Game-fee-replacement insurance ($2,000 maximum benefit) • Insurance plan covers you when working any level of amateur baseball AND softball. All with a $1,000 deductible.
• Premium ABUA Membership: Comprehensive $1 million liability insurance coverage • $100,000 accident medical plan • Game-fee-replacement insurance ($2,500 maximum benefit) • Insurance plan covers you when working any level of ANY amateur sports. All with a $0 deductible.
How do I file a claim?
To file a claim, log into your ABUA account online and click on the "Insurance Questions" link on the lefthand side. There you will find all instructions for filing a claim.
If I have to go to the hospital for dehydration, am I covered?
The insurance covers medical for accidents during the sporting event. Dehydration is a preventable condition, and is
NOT covered by the insurance program since it is not an accident. Please be vigilant and make sure to hydrate as frequently as needed during games, especially on hot/humid days/nights.
